The Close Shaves are Eve, Emily and Jen, three friends based in Brighton who came together to sing in early 2012 through a love of all things swing and beautiful close harmonies.
We are creative souls with a wide range of musical experience and have all been singing since an early age, both as soloists and in various groups.
Our sound is swinging A cappella (with occasional ukulele), encompassing rich vocal harmonies with a vintage twist. Our set-list includes songs-and-sounds from a range of genres and we're always on the listen out for new and exciting material. Our influences include The Andrews Sisters, Ella Fitzgerald, The McGuire Sisters and film music. We write our own arrangements of songs and we can do bespoke arrangements on request. Happy birthday sing-a-gram anyone??
We have a diverse set of gigs under our belt and we are available for weddings, birthdays, Christmas parties, tea-dances, drinks receptions, corporate events and the like. Our sound is ideal for intimate settings to make any occasion memorable.

A love of singing and harmony-making started at a young age for Evie, with her Mum being a keen singer and lover of jazz. She encouraged Evie to harmonise by ear generally at the same time as teaching her how to cook! To this day she still can't make gravy without humming a little tune!
Evie has gone on to sing in many choirs and groups throughout her musical life and has always had a passion for choral music with beautiful harmonies.
She feel very lucky to be part of The Close Shaves and to have the opportunity to explore songs from one of her favourite musical eras with two lovely friends.
Classically trained, Emily has been involved in music from an early age, playing several instruments and singing in choirs and bands. After qualifying as a music therapist from the Guildhall she moved to Brighton and has since developed a thriving career as a piano teacher and music therapist, focusing on work with vulnerable children and running therapeutic singing groups for adults with dementia. The Close Shaves brings together for her a love of performing, arranging and the music of the swing-era.
Jen Lindsey-Clark has been singing around campfires for years but only in the last few has she taken to the stage, in between baking fantastic celebration cakes for her business, She bakes, and bringing up her three year old boy. Jen's natural ear for harmonies and pitch is definitely in the blood: her grandmother was in a similar style group in the 1930's with her two sisters called 'The Three Herons', entertaining the troops and performing backing vocals for Al Boley and other stars of that era.
